Getting good at meditation isn’t the point
Getting to know and be yourself, in my experience, is the gift meditation offers. And it looks different for each of us.
You choose the desire you want to embody: peaceful, calm, connected to Source energy, the Creator, Universe, God. The higher realm that you resonate with, and how you want to feel. Joy. Peace. Relaxation. Love.
Perhaps it is being in the void, focusing on your breath. Or you tap into your imagination and travel to the upper realms.
Years ago, a friend told me she tried meditating so many times and just felt frustrated, like she was doing it wrong. She’d light a candle and sit cross-legged on a fancy purple pillow with her back straight. Hands face up on her lap, index finger and thumb touching. Eyes closed, breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. All the things I’d shared when we meditated together.
She got nothing. No vision. No message. No relaxation.
She is an equestrian, so I asked her, “How do you feel when you’re riding your horse?”
Her eyes immediately sparkled, and her smile lit up her whole face. She laughed and said, “I’m not thinking about anything and just loving every moment.”
I told her, “That’s your meditation. You’re in the zone. Present … in the moment. You don’t need to sit still to meditate. You jump on your mare’s back and are one with her.”
Meditation looks and feels different for all of us. For many people, sitting still, eyes closed, and getting quiet works for them. For others, it’s playing an instrument, singing, dancing, or any expression of the art they love.
For me, it’s opening the Language Portal and writing.
What is it for you? What do you want to experience? Knowing why helps you set your intention.
